An expanding footprint

ABB has also built a new high-voltage products factory in Savli to manufacture gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and PASS (plug and switch system) hybrid switchgear for local and export markets.

“Our distribution transformers are extremely reliable and designed for maximum availability, energy savings and reduced life cycle costs,” said Markus Heimbach, head of ABB’s Transformers business, a part of the company’s Power Products division. “The combination of global ABB technologies and local manufacturing and testing enables us to offer competitive, best-in-class solutions to our Indian customers.”

ABB`s footprint in India includes 12 production sites, and the country is now an essential manufacturing center for ABB Group. It provides engineering solutions, product design and research, enabling ABB to design and manufacture products in India for Indian customers, and also for export.

The new factory in Savli broadens the company’s transformer portfolio in India by extending the range of its distribution transformer offering up to 10 megavolt amperes (MVA), 36 kilovolts (kV).

Manufacturing capacity
ABB has global expertise in the design and manufacture of transformers for special requirements that optimize limited space and can withstand the most demanding conditions.

ABB’s liquid-filled transformers are manufactured for indoor or outdoor applications in accordance with the toughest industry and international standards, and can be fitted with off-load and on-load tap changers.

Small distribution transformers are typically oil-immersed and suitable for pole, pad or ground mounting. These economical and versatile units are good options in networks with low population densities, and are suitable for residential overhead distribution loads, light commercial or industrial loads and diversified power applications.

Vacuum cast coil (VCC), or cast resin, units are dry-type transformers used in applications like electrical distribution, lighting, or paired with variable speed drives. Other applications include excitation and rectifier transformers, special transformers built for marine, offshore, mining and wind turbine applications, and other special designs.

Dry-type transformers can be deployed in environmentally challenging conditions. They enhance safety and are well suited to indoor applications

The Savli plant`s infrastructure is state-of-the-art. Experienced project managers and reliable logistics partners ensure all transformers manufactured here are packed and transported safely to the customer`s final destination.

The factory is a 30 minute drive from Vadodara Airport, or a 2.5 hour drive from Ahmedabad International Airport. Major customers in India include some of the country`s largest power utilities and manufacturers, including PGCIL, NTPC, NHPC, Grasim Industries and Jindal Steel Power Ltd.

Transformers are integral components of an electrical grid, and essential for the efficient and safe conversion of electricity between diverse voltage systems. ABB’s transformer portfolio includes power transformers rated up to 1,200 kV, dry and liquid distribution transformers, traction and special application transformers as well as related services and components.
